Part of the Planeta animal - New Edition series

Reviews

This addition to the "Planeta Animal" series focuses on the Komodo dragon, a large and dangerous reptile that is found in Indonesia. Alternating pages of text and photographs provide much information about these intriguing reptiles. Each page of text includes a short statement, a paragraph of information, and definitions of specific terms. Young readers will learn that while quite dangerous, Komodo dragons will whistle to warn people who may come too close. The reptiles have enormous appetites and may even eat other Komodo dragons. All of the photographs except for the last one show Komodo dragons clearly, going about their everyday tasks. The book even includes a graphic photograph of two dragons devouring an animal. The last photograph illustrates a legend featuring twins, a boy and a girl who is a Komodo dragon. An agreement between them leads people of Indonesia to treat the dragons with kindness. A table of contents and an index are included. This book and others in the series would be useful in science classes for Spanish-speaking elementary students or in classroom libraries where students are learning Spanish. Readers will be fascinated to learn about this rare reptile they may have seen in a zoo.
