Part of the El principio de los series

Reviews

The “Starting Out” series (8 titles) is now available to young Spanish speakers and learners as “El principo de los,” which sports a small trim size and sturdy covers ideally suited for little hands. In this volume, readers follow the stages of development of a baby fox, or kit, invitingly narrated by the kit itself. For those curious to hear its real voice, the “Speak and Listen” chapter includes a link to a howling fox. Appealing (and adorable) color photographs of the kit at various growth stages grace each page, including a labeled diagram of its basic anatomy. The oversized print is easy to read and simple vocabulary is highlighted for early learners; basic back matter further introduces youngsters to the nonfiction format. An engaging and informative series for any library.

Adorable baby animals (kangaroos, dolphins, seals, gorillas, giraffes, pandas, tigers, and foxes) are profiled in this Spanish language series for preschool and early elementary readers. Each book features basic facts about the animal’s habitat, size, weight, and survival skills. What stands out: The text is written in first-person point of view, adding to each creature’s cuddly appeal. Delightful photographs fill the pages. VERDICT Prepare for cuteness overload thanks to this well-translated series for beginning readers. Great for individual or one-on-one reading, or group read-alouds.
