Reviews

We are in a forest, and it is raining. Large raindrops drip off leaves, and they land on the ground, where colorful butterflies sip up the water. Raindrops also land on a chimpanzee’s open hand, and we cannot help wondering what the chimpanzee is thinking. It has such an intense expression on its face. A group of young chimpanzees sit beneath some large leaves and hoot to each other. Two of them gaze at a pretty yellow butterfly. The chimps are not the only ones who have something to say. Grey parrots squawk, and frogs hum. There are other sounds in the forest, too. There is the sound of munching and the thudding of feet. This lusciously illustrated book takes children into forests, where they encounter a variety of animals, large and small. The scenes that appear on every page will give children the opportunity to talk about what they are seeing. What are the chimps thinking? What are the parrots saying? Little stories can be found in the artwork, waiting to be told.
